Our Story

Country cactus crafts came to fruition one day at my boring desk job.

I was working for a business creating flyers and advertisements for them to publish in the local newspaper and magazines. I quickly realized that I didn't have the creative freedom I desired in this job which led to me being burnt out and unmotivated.

During my downtime, I started to doodle on notepads like I did when I was in my teens and it reignited the passion I once had for art. I could envision my little doodles as stickers, cards, and t-shirts. I wanted to have a job where I could have the freedom to create whatever I wanted to and could be proud of it. I decided then that one day I wanted to have my own business to sell my art and designs.

I was eventually able to quit that job and worked for years to create what is now Country Cactus Crafts.

Meet the Artist

IMG_4744_edited.jpg

Hi! I'm Kiara!

I have a passion for all things creative! I have always been an artist in some form for as long as I can remember. I used to draw imaginary characters with my friends in elementary school. I love to write stories like my grandpa. After school, I would walk to my mom's scrapbooking store and craft with the supplies she had there. In high school, I was the yearbook editor and also learned a lot about photo editing. For most of my teen years, I wanted to be a photographer when I grew up. I love art in all forms and Country Cactus Crafts allows me to do a little bit of everything. I think deep down I always knew I wanted to turn my art into a career but, it seemed like an unachievable dream. Sharing my art with all of you is a new path that I am excited to explore.

A Little more about me

I'm a wife and mama of one. I've been married to my husband, Jeffrey, for 5 years. He is my biggest supporter and has always pushed me to follow my dreams no matter how big or small. We currently call Kennewick, Washington our home. Other than being an artist, my next biggest dream was to be a stay-at-home mom. In 2021, we welcomed our first baby, Vivi, into this world. She is a spunky, energetic toddler and the light of my life. When I'm not creating, I'm usually chasing her around or spending time with my mom, mom-in-law, and sister who all live close by. My family means everything to me! I will forever be grateful for their support and encouragement of this journey.

behind the name

I inherited my love of art and creativity from my mom's side. I'm following in her footsteps of pursuing it as a career. My other hobby is gardening and I inherited that from my dad's side.

My dad was raised on a dairy in a small town and eventually became a farmer, now specializing in onions. My grandma's house has always been a special place for me. As a kid, I would swim in the canal with my cousins or explore the land. When I got into photography, the farm became the location of many photoshoots, including my senior pictures and later on, wedding pictures.

The "country" in my business name is an homage to my country roots and grandparent's farm.

My grandma was always outside in her beautiful garden, picking raspberries or planting flowers. I always admired her garden but never thought it would be one of my hobbies. One day, I received a succulent as a gift and was immediately hooked on growing plants. Ever since, I have been a houseplant enthusiast, starting with other succulents and cacti then slowly growing my collection and learning all about them. In the future, I hope to have a garden to grow flowers, fruits, or veggies like my grandma.

The "cactus" in Country Cactus Crafts comes from the first succulent that ignited my houseplant hobby.
